CAP - AND - TRADE PROPOSALS (IN RESPONSE TO ACCEPTANCE OF QUESTIONABLE GLOBAL WARMING)

    I strongly urge you to reject the flawed proposals of H.R. 2454, the American Clean Energy and Security Act. I understand that this measure was passed by the House early this summer and is currently being debated in the Senate.

    The American Clean Energy and Security Act uses a cap and trade system, which would impose strict limits on the emission of greenhouse gases, including CO2, and allot companies "allowances" based on emission history. Those that use less CO2 than permitted could sell their extra emissions to other high energy-consuming industries while those who use more would be forced to modify operations, retrofit or replace equipment, or buy credits on the open market. Furthermore, the bill would require efficiency increases in appliances, electronics, and automobiles while at the same time requiring electricity producers to acquire more energy from renewable sources.

    This interference with market forces will drive up the costs for both businesses and consumers. Industry and utilities will be forced to pay upfront for emissions, thus passing the cost on to consumers through increased prices for products, services, electricity and fuel.

    Virtually every economic model of ACES determined that the House’s bill would lead to increased energy costs. Some economists have speculated that it could cost households an average of $4,000 a year. Several of these reports also show that the cap-and-trade bill would give businesses and industries in China and other non-carbon-constrained countries a competitive advantage over American companies.

    I urge you to vote NO on H.R. 2454, or any other legislative proposal using the faulty system of cap-and –trade, which in reality is nothing more than a hidden tax on U.S. goods, services, and commodities.

                      GLOBAL WARMING

Dear _____________________

    We request you do NOT support any treaty or legislation that is based on the premise that there is a serious crisis caused by the warming of the planet. We do not believe this premise is accurate and that there is a crisis.

    Most such erroneous propositions state this warming is caused by an excess of industry or human created gases. Proponents claim we must seriously limit population growth and industry to prevent devastating results. We believe this to be a very inaccurate claim and that, if reacted to by treaty or legislation, would have a clear and negative impact on American industry, jobs, and standard of living.

    While it is true there have been expressions of scientific support for global warning it is very clear this is controversial. There is strong scientific evidence, publicly expressed, that global warming is a fraudulent issue, not supported by the facts.

    Accordingly we request opposition to such fraudulent claims in the interests of what's best for America and what best represents the facts.
